The New York Giants are looking to create more cap space this offseason and are reportedly releasing offensive lineman Will Beatty and Geoff Schwartz. The Giants are also expected to release linebacker Jon Beason, but it may not be a designated cut, as the Giants linebacker may decide to retire, according to NFL reporter Conor Orr.

Schwartz has confirmed that he has been released through is Twitter account and said that he will have more to say at the appropriate time. The moves clear $12 million in salary cap space, and the Giants will look to be major players in the free agency market after finishing with a 6-10 record in a weak NFC East this past season. The Giants now are looking at more than $60 million in cap room once the free-agent signing period begins in March, according to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News.

Both Schwartz and Beatty were reportedly not approached by the Giants to restructure their deals, as the team is just looking to move on. Beatty missed the 2015 season with a torn pectoral, and Schwartz was only able to play in 13 games in two seasons in New York.

The Giants have plenty of issues to solve this offseason, but their offense was one of the best in the NFL last year, finishing eighth in yards and sixth in points per game. While the Giants offense was able to score with the best offenses in the NFL last season, they struggled to stop anyone, finishing last in the league in terms of yards per game.

The Giants will look to address those issues through the draft and through free agency, as they now can make a big push for some of the top defensive free agents. The Giants may also look to bolster their offensive line after releasing both Schwartz and Beatty, and it wouldn't be surprising to see them use a pick in the first three rounds of the draft on a future offensive lineman.
