Katie May, who was best known for being a social media sensation, a Playboy model and earning the title of "Queen of Snapchat," died Thursday after suffering a "catastrophic" stroke. While the stroke seemed strange considering May was just 34 years old, it turns out that a serious injury took place during a photo shoot that may have had a lot to do with the cause of her death.

May took a brutal fall during a photo shoot in Los Angeles last week and injured her neck, sources with direct knowledge of the incident told TMZ. Since the neck pain was so bad, May went to the hospital but was released later that day even though the pain still remained.

"Pinched a nerve in my neck on a photo shoot and got adjusted this morning. It really hurts!" she tweeted on Friday while still in pain.

Sources are reportedly saying that May did not pinch a nerve, but that she tore the carotid artery in her neck, which eventually caused a blood clot and caused the stroke that put her in critical condition in the hospital on Monday. This condition is called carotid artery dissection.

May passed away on Thursday after being taken off life support, as HNGN previously reported. She was in the presence of her friends and family at the time.

"Known as MsKatieMay on the Internet and the 'Queen of Snapchat,' she leaves behind millions of fans and followers and a heartbroken family," her brother said following her death. "We respectfully ask for privacy in this difficult time."
