A transgender Girl Scout has found a way to beat her bullies and give back to her community after she was met with nasty comments from her neighbors selling cookies door-to-door, according to the New York Daily News.

Stormi, who is just 9 years old, lives in Southern Illinois with her foster parent Kim after being placed with her three years ago, according to the Daily News. The pair were out selling the famous Girl Scout cookies for Stormi's troop when a neighbor took it upon himself to tell them that "nobody wants to buy cookies from a boy in a dress," according to Buzzfeed News.

"It made me sad, because I'm a girl," Stormi told Buzzfeed News.

After their unpleasant encounter, Stormi and Kim set up a website through the Girl Scouts, Stormi's Cookie World, for Stormi to sell her cookies online, according to the Washington Post. The website was set up on Jan. 24, and by Jan. 28, Stormi had sold more than 3,000 boxes of the cookies to customers all over the world, according to Buzzfeed News.

Stormi was helped along in her goal by a number of LGBT advocacy groups that heard about her campaign and decided to get on board. Members of the Idaho Falls Gender Community posted on its Facebook page in support of Stormi, encouraging others to buy her cookies, while performers from a New York improv group offered free admission to their shows to people who bought a box, according to Buzzfeed News.

Stormi and Kim decided to reach out to others after getting so much support for their cause and now intend to donate cookies to foster kids like Stormi every year, according to the Daily News.

"I want kids like me to know they are perfect just the way they are," Stormi told Buzzfeed News. "There are people all over the world that love you. Never give up because it does get better."
