San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick struggled to produce on the field this past season and managed just a 2-6 record before being benched midway through the season. Kaepernick's return to San Francisco in 2016 has been in question since November, with reports coming out that the 49ers quarterback was "virtually certain" to not return next season.

49ers CEO Jed York said that everybody would be getting a fresh start under new head coach Chip Kelly, but the organization is likely putting on a public face about keeping Kaepernick for trade leverage purposes, as there are major trust issues between the two, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.

Nothing has reportedly changed since the hiring of Kelly, and a trade remains very likely this offseason. The 49ers quarterback has been rehabbing his non-throwing shoulder in Vail, and he has no plans to be in San Francisco for either Super Bowl 50 or anything else, according to La Canfora.

The 49ers quarterback was reportedly interested in the New York Jets, but reports have since surfaced that the Jets organization has no interest in making a move for Kaepernick. Kaepernick will likely garner interest from teams around the league, as quarterbacks with winning records in the NFL are not easy to come by. Kaepernick has posted a 27-20 record as a starter in San Francisco and will look to continue his career elsewhere next season, as the 49ers quarterback has wanted out of San Francisco for some time now.
