The 2016 presidential race is one of the more interesting political storylines in recent memory. No, not because of Donald Trump, it's because of Frank Underwood.

Netflix's "House of Cards" will debut its fourth season in just one short month, but already the streaming service has put in an order for a fifth season. While fans are surely excited to see what other schemes Kevin Spacey's character can cook up, they may be disappointed to hear that the 2017 season will come without creator and showrunner Beau Willimon, Cinema Blend reports.

Netflix wouldn't have ordered a fifth season already if they weren't confident that the show could continue creatively. Though the company does not release specific viewership numbers, it's widely believed that "House of Cards" is one of the most watched series that the streaming service offers, as well as its longest-running original series. But how will it continue without Willimon?

The playwright who penned "Ides of March" adapted the original British series of the same name into the devious political thriller we've all come to know and love. He's the one who has orchestrated all of the show's biggest moments from Zoe's untimely demise to the slow erosion of the Underwoods' marriage.

It is unknown at this time who will replace Willimon as showrunner, but they undoubtedly have some big shoes to fill. Though "House of Cards" may not boast the most depth of its fellow dramas on TV, it does have an incredibly high entertainment factor. It will be tough to keep that up without its driving creative force.

"House of Cards" will return to Netflix for a fourth season on Friday, March 4.
