The New York Giants are reportedly expected to hire Philadelphia Eagles outside linebackers coach Bill McGovern as their next linebackers coach. The Giants reportedly interviewed Hall of Fame linebacker and former 49ers head coach Mike Singletary but decided to go in a different direction.

McGovern was a defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Boston College prior to working with the Eagles and coached Giants linebacker Mark Herzlich in college. The Giants are still working on putting their coaching staff together under newly appointed head coach Ben McAdoo, and the organization is reportedly expected to keep Steve Spagnuolo as their defensive coordinator.

The Giants have a ton of issues to fix this offseason, as they finished in third place in a weak NFC East with a record of 6-10. The Giants offense was clearly not the problem in 2015, as they scored the sixth most points in the entire league. Quarterback Eli Manning has shown strong improvement under McAdoo, and the Giants front office likely wanted to keep continuity going into the 2016 season.

On the other side of the ball, the Giants have plenty of issues to take of this offseason. New York finished in last place in the NFL in terms of yards allowed per game and gave up the third most points. The Giants have the 10th pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, and general manager Jerry Reese is likely focused on the defensive side of the ball, as the Giants need a ton of help at each level of their defense.
