Apple has announced that it is currently investigating a bug in its iOS software that prevents the battery icon on the smartphone from displaying the unit's actual battery content, according to CNN Money.

The particular bug, which usually freezes the battery level to about 63 percent, has unfortunately led some users of iPhone 6S and 6S Plus devices to believe that they have more battery power remaining than they actually do.

The iPhone 6S and 6S Plus have exhibited a number of battery quirks since its launch in September, including identical models having varying battery life due to chip variations in the smartphone's internals, reports CNET News.

For its part, Apple has assured its users that the current battery issue is completely superficial. Though misleading, it does not actually affect the amount of charge the smartphone is capable of holding.

The problem with the battery display has been reported to be triggered by users who have changed the time of the smartphones manually after moving to a different time zone, according to CBS News.

Due to the bug being linked to the iPhone's clock functions, Apple suggests that if users encounter the problem, all they need to do is initiate a reset of the smartphone, followed by turning on the "set automatically" function on the phone's date and time settings.

The bug is set to be addressed in the coming iOS 9.3 update, which is set to be released in the coming months.
