The world lost a great talent in Alan Rickman Thursday. The actor had a long career and was known for tons of roles, but two of his most iconic characters were Hans Gruber in "Die Hard" and Severus Snape in all eight "Harry Potter" films. After Rickman passed of cancer at the age of 69, The New Yorker magazine posted a touching tribute to the actor in the form of a cartoon that celebrated his most memorable roles. The cartoon, drawn by Ben Schwartz, features Harry Potter and John McClane sitting alone at a bar together as they toasted their departed foe.

"Here's to the best damned antagonist a guy could ask for," the caption on the cartoon read.

When the news of Rickman's passing broke, tons of people took to their social media accounts to pay tribute to the late actor, including "Harry Potter" author J.K. Rowling and two of the series' stars Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe, as HNGN previously reported.

"There are no words to express how shocked and devastated I am to hear of Alan Rickman's death. He was a magnificent actor & a wonderful man," Rowling wrote on Twitter.

"My thoughts are with Rima and the rest of Alan's family. We have all lost a great talent. They have lost part of their hearts," she continued.

"I'm very sad to hear about Alan today. I feel so lucky to have worked and spent time with such a special man and actor. I'll really miss our conversations. RIP Alan. We love you," Watson wrote on Facebook.

Radcliffe wrote a touching tribute to the actor on his Google+ account and called Richman "undoubtedly one of the greatest actors I will ever work with."
