Fans of the "Harry Potter" film franchise have raised their wands in a tribute to Alan Rickman, the actor who played the role of beloved character Professor Severus Snape. In the wake of Rickman's death on Thursday morning, a goodbye note penned by the actor after production wrapped on the last movie resurfaced online, E! News reported.

Rickman paid tribute to the eight-part film franchise with a thoughtful message, which was published on April 26, 2011, in Empire Magazine. In the note, Rickman wrote that he had just finished dubbing his lines as Severus Snape for the last time for the eighth and last installment, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2."

"A lifetime seems to have passed in minutes," Rickman wrote about the 10 years he spent filming "Harry Potter."

"Three children have become adults since a phone call with Jo Rowling, containing one small clue, persuaded me that there was more to Snape than an unchanging costume, and that even though only three of the books were out at that time, she held the entire massive but delicate narrative in the surest of hands," Rickman continued, mentioning "Harry Potter" author J.K. Rowling. "It is an ancient need to be told in stories. But the story needs a great storyteller. Thanks for all of it, Jo."

The actor passed away on Thursday, Jan. 14 after a battle with cancer, as previously reported by HNGN. He was 69 years old.
