Photographed while attending London's Poppy Day celebrations yesterday, Nov. 7, many fans of Kate Middleton were surprised to notice her silver roots showing through her normally chesnut-brown hair.

Wearing herhair long and wavy, parted in the middle rather than its usual side-part, the Duchess of Cambridge coupled her long, loose hairstyle with a bright red claret coat from LK Bennett's autumn/winter 2011 collection, the Daily Mail reports, along with black tights and stilettos as she traveled from her residence in Kensington Palace to High Street.

"If you are going gray, it is important to part your hair where the gray does not show," advised Hairdresser Daniel Galvin Jr., who noted that pregnancy may have altered Middleton's hair. "If, when pregnant, you use an anaesthetic grey hairs may develop. It's a huge shock to the system sometimes sends the hair bulb to sleep causing the hair to loose its natural pigmentation."

With a fourth-month old baby and plenty of royal engagements to attend to, it's likely that the Duchess didn't give a second thought to her roots coming in, or simply didn't have time to go in for a four-hour salon session.

Her gray roots are just another reminder that despite her royal status, the Duchess of Cambridge deals with the same hair annoyances as any British commoner. Along with a hint of gray at the roots, Middleton's brown locks revealed subtle blonde highlights.

During Poppy Day, Middleton met a number of the carefully-chosen Poppy Girls, as well as military staff and volunteers from the Royal British Legions, even joining her husband Prince William for a ride on public transportation via a 1960s Routemaster bus as part of the day's celebrations.

For her future royal events, Middleton has also reportedly enlisted the help of Emilia Jardine-Paterson, one of Prince George's new godparents and one of Middleton's oldest friends, to help "spice up" her sophisticated style. Rumor has it she even had a hand in decorating Prince William and Kate Middleton's luxurious new home, Apartment 1A.
