The New York Giants are hiring offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo as their next head coach, according to NFL reporter Ian Rapoport. The Giants had stated as early as Tuesday that they had planned to make a decision regarding their next head coach by the end of the week, and after Bengals offensive coordinator Hue Jackson signed with the Browns earlier Wednesday the Giants likely felt it was time to lock up McAdoo.

The Philadelphia Eagles reportedly had a strong interest in the Giants offensive coordinator, and that likely pushed ownership to make a deal with McAdoo faster. Defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo is expected to remain with the team, according to Fox Sports' Mike Garafolo.

McAdoo signed with the Giants in 2014, and quarterback Eli Manning has clearly improved in his system both in completion percentage and in his touchdown-to-interception ratio. Manning threw a career-high 35 touchdowns in a disappointing 2015 season, as New York finished with a 6-10 record in a weak NFC East division. The Giants offense has also clearly improved since the addition of wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., and this past season they finished eighth in the league in terms of yards per game.

The Giants have a ton of issues to fix this offseason, as their defense finished last in the NFL in terms of yards allowed. This will be McAdoo's first time as a head coach, and after two seasons in New York he already understands the pressure and will look to make the Giants playoff contenders again.
