Earlier this year, the developer behind "Battlefield 4," DICE, told the public that it was exploring the possibilities of using Kinect support in the Xbox One version of the fourth installment in the popular first person shooting franchise. Now the developers have clarified how the game will work with Kinect and that its functions will be optional and merely augment the game's features if the player so chooses.

According to Polygon, the Kinect will be used in Battlefield 4 on Xbox One for both leaning and voice commands. In the case of the leaning commands, the ability to peek around corners can be done using Kinect head-tracking. You can simply move your head and you'll lean around a corner and be able to fire without completely exposing your player's body from behind cover. It's possible to use these functions without the Kinect as buttons exist on the controller or your keyboard, however, this should make the experience more natural.

Meanwhile, voice commands are also pretty straightforward, according to IGN. The requests and comments that can be made with the Commo Rose include things like "Thanks," requesting ammunition, health or a ride based on using simple voice commands spoken aloud and picked up by the microphone in your Kinect.

Voice commands and head tracking are the exact functions suggested by DICE when it originally discussed using the Kinect to augment its latest title back in September. Battlefield 4 was released on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on Oct. 29. The PlayStation 4 version and the Xbox One version will be released along with the consoles on Nov. 15 and Nov. 22 respectively.
