Alanis Morissette will now write a weekly advice column for Guardian Weekend Magazine beginning Jan. 16, taking the reins from actress Molly Ringwald, according to The Huffington Post.

The Canadian singer explained that she wanted another "medium" to use in giving out advice other than through songs.

"I was getting bored with just one form. Songs are my favourite, let's be honest. But there's a limitation: it's just three or four minutes," Morissette said in an interview with The Guardian.

"In a podcast, or in a column, there's an intimacy and vulnerability on my part and the questioner's part. We're going for it, and there's no hiding."

The singer also admits to playing the role of a "family therapist" her whole life.

"Parents, brothers, even extended family members, that was the role I took on, because I suppose I had this combination of intuition and empathy. I cut my teeth, basically, listening for a living."

Besides a weekly advice column, Morissette has also been releasing a series of podcasts about "everything from psychology to art to spirituality to design to health and well-being, to relationships" on her official website since October.

Morissette famously ripped ex-boyfriend Dave Couiler on the 1995 hit "You Oughta Know." She is now married to rapper Mario Treadway and gave birth to their child in 2010, according to the New York Daily News.
