Samuel L. Jackson landed himself a role starring alongside John Cusack in the thriller based on a Stephen King novel "Cell."

The story is about a New England artist's journey to reunite with his son after a strange cellphone signal begins to turn humans into vicious predators, according to Variety. King's apocalyptic novel was published in 2006.  King and Adam Alleca wrote the screenplay.

"International Film Trust will be presenting the project to buyers at the American Film Market this week. Paradigm and CAA are co-repping the domestic rights," Variety reports.  "Tod 'Kip' Williams will direct, with production set to begin in January. Benaroya Pictures is financing."

Jackson was last seen on the big screen in the film "Django Unchained," starring alongside Jamie Foxx, Kerry Washington and Leonardo DiCaprio.  However, it is Jackson's second time starring alongside Cusack.

"This won't be the first time Jackson and Cusack co-star in a King adaptation, as they were both in Mikael Håfström's underseen 2007 horror mystery 1408>, though Jackson's role was limited to one major scene," Cinema Blend reports.

Another film Jackson has been linked to is stirring up some rumors.  According to The Times U.K., "12 Years A Slave" star Chiwetel Ejiofor met with "Star Wars Episode 7" director J.J. Abrams.

The timing of their meeting comes about two months before the "Star Wars" movie is supposed to begin filming, which is Jan. 21, 2014.  Though reports speculated Ejiofor could be meeting Abrams for a role in the sci-fi flick, the director refused to comment.

"The British actor Chiwetel Ejiofor, front-runner in this year's Oscar race, is sitting in the lobby of J. J. Abrams' office. If you're a sci-fi fan, this might be very big news indeed," The Times reports.
