Twitter's lack of diversity is about to change, or is it? The social media mogul has named Jeffrey Siminoff as its new Diversity Chief, according to The New York Times. The announcement comes after a year of criticisms that the company didn't have enough diversity in its workforce, especially with its lack of women employees.

Siminoff's official position is Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion, according to Fortune. He was previously the Director of Worldwide Inclusion and Diversity at Apple.

Siminoff is replacing Janet Van Huysse, who held the position for six years.

What is causing outrage is the fact that Siminoff is taking over a position that focuses on increasing diversity while being a white male, according to USA Today. Even Apple has struggled with increasing diversity- Siminoff's previous place of employment- and it makes people less than hopeful that he could bring any change to Twitter.

Twitter has had a problem with diversity recently, as the company is currently fighting a gender discrimination lawsuit with a former employee.

Even Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, a prominent civil rights leader, is among those criticizing the company.

"Blacks and Latinos over-index on using Twitter, but their board of directors and C-suite leadership remain all white. What's astonishing to me is that these companies, with their liberal facades, resist our work. I thought that these tech companies would have been more inclusive, but they are way behind," he said.
