The National Health Service (NHS) Choir has claimed the official Christmas U.K. number one for 2015, beating the likes of Justin Bieber and recently-crowned X Factor U.K. winner Louisa Johnson for the top spot.

The charity single "A Bridge Over You" sold a total of 127,000 copies, while the Canadian singer finished with just 97,000 copies of "Love Yourself," the Daily Mail reported.

"It's an historic day for the NHS. It's a day that the country has shown just how much they love their NHS," said Joe Blunden, an NHS communications manager who is one of the organizers of the choir's chart campaign, according to BBC News.

"About a quarter of the choir are working today. It's great to think of them listening to their number one on the radio while they work."

Meanwhile, Johnson had only managed to bag the 12th spot, making her the second winner not to bag the coveted U.K. Christmas number one after Joe McElderry, who lost out to Rage Against The Machine in 2009, according to The Mirror.

Bieber himself has congratulated the choir on his official Twitter account after he threw his support behind the charity single. He even urged his followers to "do the right thing" and buy the single because "that's what Christmas is all about," as HNGN previously reported.

The proceeds of the charity single will go to several charity organizations all across the U.K., including Careers U.K. and Mind.
