Justin Bieber is doing his part to spread some holiday cheer. The pop star urged fans on Twitter to download the new single "A Bridge Over You" by England's National Health Service (NHS) Choir so the group can win the highly coveted spot as the Christmas Day No. 1 single on the U.K. Charts.

Bieber's goodwill started with a re-tweet by his manager, Scooter Braun, who tweeted a link to an article that reported that the NHS choir's song was just behind Bieber's current single, "Love Yourself," on the U.K.'s Top 40 charts.

"Hmmm. @justinbieber @edsheeran time to do the right thing boys. #giveback," tweeted Braun.

Shortly after re-tweeting Braun's message, Bieber posted a series of tweets to his 71.9 million followers.

"I'm hearing this UK Christmas race is close...but the @Choir_NHS single is for charity. So for 1 week it's ok not to be #1," Bieber wrote on Twitter. "Let's do the right thing & help them win. It's Christmas. @Choir_NHS good luck. This is what it's all about. Merry Christmas :)"

In one of his tweets, Bieber even posted the download link to the choir's song, which is a mash up of Simon and Garfunkel's "A Bridge Over Troubled Water" and Coldplay's "Fix You," reported the BBC. The single was recorded in 2013 by a choir made up of NHS staff — which includes doctors, physios, porters and nurses — but a new campaign for it to reach No. 1 started in October.

Proceeds from the song will be donated to health care charities in the U.K., including the mental health charity Mind and Careers U.K., reported Newsweek, which provides assistance to people who care for their loved ones.

The NSH Choir tweeted back at Bieber after he supported its bid for No. 1.

"Next time you're in the UK, we should have a singalong together," tweeted NHS. "Thank you so much."

The No. 1 single will be revealed on the BBC's Radio 1 Christmas morning.
