Earlier last week, Apple unveiled the newest installment in its lineup of tablets. The new iPad Air and iPad mini, one of which hit store shelves earlier on Friday and fans of the product in several countries have camped out to be among the first to get their hands on the newest technology from Apple.

The iPad Air launched in 42 countries including the U.S., where people were camped out. Bideos from several store launches including Sydney, Tokyo and Amsterdam have been popping up on YouTube throughout the day, according to CNN.

The 9.7-inch iPad Air is 20 percent thinner than its predecessor and weighs only a small one pound. It features the 64-bit A7 processing chip as well as the M7 coprocessor, both of which are available on Apple's latest iPhone 5S, according to USA Today.

The product sports 10 hours of battery life and has helped the company command a 29.6 percent market share for global tablet shipments. Unfortunately, this number is down by more than 40 percent last year. Meanwhile, Apple's biggest rival Samsung is gaining ground by boosting its share in the third quarter from 12 percent to 20 percent.

Apple is hoping to top the three million iPads that it sold last year during this quarter. When the fourth-generation iPad and iPad mini launched Apple saw one of its best years yet, the hope is they can replicate that success sometime this year. The new iPad mini comes with a Retina display and is slated to hit store shelves later in November. One market that Apple is hoping will help it achieve this goal will be the fact that the iPad Air will be the first Apple product to have a Day One launch in China.
