Gigi Hadid and Tommy Hilfiger have joined forces! After walking down the Tommy Hilfiger runway in a crochet bikini in September, the 20-year-old model has officially been named the iconic fashion label's global ambassador, according to The New York Times.
Hilfiger knew that if he wanted to be talked about, bringing on a current celebrity phenomenon would be a good idea, and there was no better person than Hadid for the job.
While global ambassador is a huge honor, the fashion designer wanted her to do more than just that. As the face of the brand, Hadid will be collaborating with Hilfiger on a capsule collection that will include a fragrance, women's sportswear, footwear and accessories to be released in fall 2016.
"Global ambassadors are a bit overused and not too exciting," Hilfiger told The New York Times. "We're really doing something different. We're creating a line called Gigi by Tommy Hilfiger, using her style, her sense, her social media presence as the top supermodel in the world today."
Tommy Hilfiger made the announcement via Instagram earlier today with a photo of Hadid in one of the brand's sweaters. "Say hello to our new Global Brand Ambassador (And face) of #TommyHilfiger womenswear...The one and only @GigiHadid," the caption read. "We're thrilled to announce the #TOMMYXGIGI collaboration capsule and fragrance set to arrive Fall 2016. So, so much more to come."
The company then posted a photo of Hadid and Hilfiger himself. "I've known @gigihadid for years, and it has been amazing to watch her grow into one of the world's top models," the caption reads. "Confident, effortless and cool, she is truly the definition of today's 'Tommy Girl.' - TH."
"Tommy's the easiest person to work with," Hadid told WWD. "I think our collection celebrates the iconic Tommy lifestyle and mixes hippie-chic with sporty and tomboy styles. There's something everyone can relate to."
Once Hadid walked in the NYFW show, Hilfiger knew he had to bring her on board. "We were the most viewed show on Snapchat, and we've been having so many requests for the crochet bikinis and everything else Gigi wore," he explained to WWD. "She is the definition of today's 'Tommy Girl' given her optimistic personality and effortless, confident style."
