Two people are dead after a driver launched a shooting spree that spanned 50 miles, hitting multiple vehicles going along Interstate-40, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation revealed Thursday.

The suspect, whose name has not been released, was eventually arrested in Custer County following a 14-mile chase, but only after he had shot and killed one man near El Reno and a woman near Weatherford, according to KOTV 6.

Reports of the spree first came in around midnight local time when a driver notified the Oklahoma Highway Patrol about the suspect driving west on I-40 and running a man and a woman off the highway. Upon investigating, police determined that the woman inside the car was unharmed, but the man was shot and killed.

The suspect continued driving westbound along I-40, continuing to fire upon different vehicles, according to KOCO-TV.

The shooting spree was soon tracked to a section of the interstate near Weatherford, where authorities discovered a bullet-ridden vehicle and a woman inside with multiple gunshot wounds. She was taken to a nearby hospital but was later declared dead.

The suspect was eventually tracked down further west along the interstate in Clinton, prompting a 14-mile chase, reported CNN. The suspect stopped his car and surrendered peacefully at 12:39 a.m. and was arrested for DUI.

The OHP and OSBI are continuing to investigate the shooting spree with the help of local authorities.
