Pop singer/songwriter and actor Josh Groban is set to make his Broadway debut in September 2016 with a role in the musical "Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812," USA Today reported. The crooner will fulfill a life-long dream of starring in a Broadway musical with his upcoming role.

Groban has always wanted to venture into theater. The "You Raise Me Up" singer had small parts on TV ("Happyland", "American Dad!") and movies ("Crazy Stupid Love," "Muppets Most Wanted), according to IMDB, but he waited for the perfect script and role to come along before signing on to make his Broadway debut.

"For a first time doing it, I wanted it to be something that was a little less expected, and I wanted it to be a show and a character that forced me to get a little bit out of my comfort zone and do something that people haven't seen before," he told the New York Times. "To have the opportunity and freedom to take off the hat of 'me,' and to dive into a character, is something I think will be very freeing, and very fun."

The "Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812" musical is based on a short section of Leo Tolstoy's classic novel "War and Peace," Variety reported. Groban will play the role of Pierre in the electro-opera, which focuses on romantic relationships in Moscow during the 19th century.

Broadway producers Howard and Janet Kagan team up with Paula Marie Black on the upcoming production, which is slated for a September 2016 debut.
