The Detroit Lions are reportedly interested in Bears offensive coordinator Adam Gase, and if head coach Jim Caldwell does not return in 2016, Gase could be the Lions' top-coaching candidate, according to CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora.

Gase is one of the hottest coaching candidates across the league, and what he has done with quarterback Jay Cutler this season has many teams interested. The Bears offensive coordinator started his NFL career in Detroit and is reportedly interested in returning to the Lions, according to La Canfora. Former NFL general manager Ernie Acorsi is currently consulting the team on new GM and coaching hires, and he holds Gase in high regard.

The Lions fired offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi back in October, and newly appointed offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter has done a remarkable job turning this offense around in a short time. The Lions started the year 1-7, and following a crushing defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs, the organization fired GM Martin Mayhew and president Tom Lewland.

Since making the moves, the Lions had won three straight prior to Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers' Hail Mary pass that beat them last Thursday. Detroit has four games left on their schedule, and Caldwell will likely need to run the table to stay on as head coach in Detroit next year. Gase is expected to be targeted by plenty of teams this offseason, but returning to Detroit might be the perfect fit for the current Bears offensive coordinator.
