Roald Dahl's classic children's story "The BFG" has finally come to life in the first teaser trailer for the Steven Spielberg-directed film.

The short trailer for the Spielberg and Disney movie introduces audiences to the story's protagonist, Sophie, a young orphan who finds herself awake at 3 a.m., a time she calls "the witching hour."

"It was the witching hour when the boogeyman comes out, when people go missing," Sophie says. "Never get out of bed, never go to the window, never look behind the curtain."

Late one night, Sophie disobeys her own advice. She gets out of bed, goes over to the window and then looks behind the curtain to see a giant foot. The BFG then reveals himself under a cloak as he chases Sophie back to her room and reaches a giant hand out towards her.

"And that is where our story begins," Sophie says as the trailer comes to a close.

The "BFG," which stands for "Big Friendly Giant" will be played by Mark Rylance, while Sophie is portrayed by newcomer Ruby Barnhill, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Bill Hader, Jemaine Clement, Penelope Wilton and Rebecca Hall also star in the live-action adaptation.

"The BFG" comes out in theatres on July 1, 2016.
