NBC has given an early renewal to "The Blacklist" for a fourth season. The James Spader drama will return for the 2015-2016 season.

"We knew about that a while ago, it's one of those things that's hard to keep quiet. But yes, we're renewed through the fourth season," creator Jon Bokenkamp said during a podcast interview on "The Blacklist: Exposed." "Hopefully we don't tank that out, we got a lot of story to tell."

Last month, the Peacock renewed its freshmen series, "Blindspot," and the Dick Wolf dramas, "Chicago P.D." and "Chicago Fire."

"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" Cast Katey Sagal As Jake's Mother

Katey Sagal will guest star on "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" as the mother of Andy Samberg's Jake Peralta in early 2016, according to TVLine. She will play Karen Peralta, who will appear in the same episode that Bradley Whitford returns as Jake's father, Roger, who abandoned Karen and Jake when his son was young boy.

Queen Latifah to Star in Lee Daniels' Music-Centric Pilot Project on Fox

Queen Latifah will lead "Empire" co-creator Lee Daniels' next music project for Fox, according to Variety. The untitled pilot revolves around three young women, who form a girl group in hopes of making it big in the music industry.

Queen Latifah will play Carlotta, the owner of an Atlanta beauty salon who has an amazing voice and becomes a surrogate mother to the three girls, although she doesn't believe in their musical ambitions. Newcomers Jude Demorest, Ryan Destiny and Brittany O'Grady will play the three aspiring singers.

Sam Richardson to Guest Star on "New Girl"

"New Girl" has booked "Veep" actor Sam Richardson to guest star in the upcoming fifth season, according to TVLine. Richardson will play a "not-particularly-bright, very clumsy police officer who gets paired up with Winston." The Fox comedy premieres its new season on Tuesday, Jan. 5 and Richardson's episode will air in March.

Spike Gives Series Order to "Red Mars"

Spike has given a straight-to-series order to "Red Mars," a drama based on the Mars Trilogy novels by Kim Stanley Robinson, according to Variety. The cable network ordered 10 hour-long episodes that will start production next summer and premiere in January 2017.

"Red Mars" is the first scripted series for Spike in nine years and tells the story of mankind's colonization and transformation of Mars, focusing on the first settlers who competed to be part of the mission charged with terraforming the mysterious planet.

CBS Cast Leads for 2016 Summer Series "American Gothic"

Justin Chatwin and Megan Ketch will star in the upcoming CBS drama, "American Gothic," produced by Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment. The one-hour murder mystery will premiere in summer 2016.

"American Gothic" centers on a prominent Boston family that is attempting to redefine itself in the wake of a chilling discovery that links their recently deceased patriarch to a string of murders spanning decades, amid the mounting suspicion that one of them may have been his accomplice.
