The 2014 Cadillac CTS sedan,  built  with the new twin turbo V-6, 8-speed automatic engine, will be unveiled at the New York International Auto Show next week and will hit the showrooms this fall, according to an announcement made by General Motors Co. Monday.

The new midsize 2014 Cadillac CTS will have twin-turbo charged V-6, 3.6 liter engine, which can pull off as much as 420 horsepower and 430 foot-pounds torque. General Motors boasts that the newly built engine for its CTS sedan is 17 kilograms lighter than BMW's 5-series 4.4 liter V8 engine and gives a better performance.

The launch will mark the company's first attempt at an eight speed automatic transmission engine and will have the highest output in GM's history, Richard Bartlett, assistant chief engineer for the newly designed engine, said in a statement, according to a Detroit News report.

General Motors officials said during an event at the Detroit's Max M. Fisher Music Center that the basic CTS sedan will have a 2 liter turbocharged engine which can achieve 272 horsepower.

"The new Cadillac twin turbo brings a new dimension of technologically advanced performance to the all-new 2014 Cadillac CTS sedan," David Leone, GM executive chief engineer, said in a statement. "Delivering power and sophistication, it marks another large step forward in the product-driven expansion of Cadillac."

The CTS sedan's new high power engine can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.6 seconds with a top speed of 170 mph. The new design is not based only on performance but also focused on fuel economy. Although exact mileage was not revealed but  Leone said in a statement that the CTS sedan will "get above mid-20s in fuel economy on the highway and city will be respectable, as well."

Another report in autoblog said that the new CTS sedan's mileage in city limits should be 17 miles per gallon and 25 mpg on highway.

General Motors North America President, Mark Reuss, confirmed via his Twitter account Monday that the 2013 Cadillac XTS large sedan is also likely to have a V-6 twin turbo engine.

"All of the people who said XTS needed a V-8, well today you know why we did not do that," Reuss tweeted. "Twin-turbo V-6 will make you smile."
