Target's online store couldn't handle the heat this Cyber Monday. The retailer reported a site-wide crash on Monday due to heavy traffic, according to Reuters. The website went down around 10 a.m.

Record-breaking numbers caused a glitch in the system, which kept it down until Monday afternoon, according to CNBC.

Target spokeswoman Jenna Reck clarified that there wasn't an actual "crash" but that the site had been slowed down, according to CNBC. The number of users had reached a level that doubled the company's busiest day to date.

The massive influx of users was likely due to the site-wide deals, which included 15 percent off and free shipping, according to USA Today. They also advertised major deals on footwear, children's cameras, and headphones, according to Reuters.

This isn't the first website glitch to plague online shopping this holiday season. Paypal experienced issues early Monday morning, and Neiman Marcus experienced a site crash on Black Friday, according to USA Today.

Other companies have also been experiencing issues such as Foot Locker and Victoria's Secret, according to Reuters. These issues, however, didn't cause as much of a disturbance as the problems at Target.

As a result, Target shares dropped 1.1 percent by late morning, according to Reuters.
