Comedian Amy Schumer and professional tennis player Serena Williams both stripped down to their panties for the latest edition of the Pirelli Calendar. The pictures were all taken by renowned photographer Annie Leibovitz and marked a transition from the calendar's usual group of models.

In the past, the iconic calendar typically featured supermodels who posed mostly nude to celebrate sexuality, but this year's version looked very different when it was unveiled. The 2016 calendar instead features 13 "women of outstanding professional, social, cultural, sporting and artistic accomplishment" and also includes Yoko Ono, "Selma" director Ava DuVernay, Patti Smith, "Star Wars" producer Kathleen Kennedy, Russian supermodel Natalia Vodianova and Chinese UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador Yao Chen, according to the New York Daily News.

At the launch of the calendar, Leibovitz explained that none of the images were conceived with the male perception of sexuality in mind, according to The Guardian. Instead, Leibovitz explained that Williams' picture was "not a nude but a body study," while Schumer's was driven by comedy.

"The idea was that she was the only one who had not got the memo about wearing clothes," Leibovitz explained.

Schumer took to her official Twitter account Monday morning to debut her picture for the calendar.

"Beautiful, gross, strong, thin, fat, pretty, ugly, sexy, disgusting, flawless, woman. Thank you Annie Leibovitz," Schumer captioned the photo.
