A Florida man, who killed his wife and posted a photo of her dead body on Facebook, was found guilty of second-degree murder on Wednesday.

In August of 2013, Derek Medina, 33, shot his 27-year-old wife, Jennifer Alfonso, eight times at their Miami residence before sharing a picture of her blood-splattered corpse on the social network - an act that made headlines around the world and gave him the title of the "Facebook Killer," according to The Miami Herald.

Jury members dismissed Medina’s argument that he killed Alfonso in self defense after she purportedly threatened him with a kitchen knife.

Prosecuting attorney Leah Klein argued that bullet trajectories and gunshot wounds indicate that Alfonso was kneeling in a cowering position and was not in a position of attacking Medina, as he claims, when he shot her, according to CBS News.

When Medina uploaded the picture of his wife’s corpse on social media, he added a note that said he expected to go to prison or receive the death penalty for the murder of his wife.

Medina had threatened Alfonso with death if she were ever to leave him, and she had told her friends that her intention was to do exactly that.

"No family should ever have to see their daughter killed and then exhibited worldwide on the internet like some macabre trophy to a husband's anger," said State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle,
according to Reuters.

Medina is facing a 25 years to life prison sentence, a hearing for which has been scheduled for Jan. 11.
