If he could only have it his way, King Carl Gustaf of Sweden would like to ban bathtubs around the world. The reigning Swedish king, who is known as an environmentalist and a "green king," said this move is the answer to saving the earth's resources.

The king shared that he got the idea when he was staying in a shower-less hotel room and was then forced to use the bathtub, according to local newspaper Svenska Dagbladet.

"It struck me that using a lot of fresh water and energy was not the smartest thing to do. I felt embarrassed about wasting it," the 69-year-old monarch said, according to People.

However, the king admitted that his suggestion was made in jest. Yet in hindsight, he added: "There's truth in it though. It's the small details that have an enormous effect," per Telegraph.

Previously known as a "petrol head," King Carl apparently switched his car to an eco-friendly hybrid type and has plans to change the heating and lighting system in the royal palace. "We do what we can here at the palace. It's an ongoing project trying to save energy, but it isn't easy in an old property," he said in the interview.

The king is headed to Paris soon to join the United Nations climate change conference.

Meanwhile, it's practically not advisable to stop bathing altogether because aside from reeking, you're likely to develop an illness. Bathing rids your body of 1,000 species of bacteria and 80 different kinds of fungus that you get from the environment, according to Huffington Post. While many of these are not harmful, some bacteria and fungus could make you sick. Just using your cellphone can bring harmful bacteria that could set on your skin and attack your body's immune system.

"When you don't wash yourself, you make it easy for microbes to wind up in your eyes, nose, mouth and give you all sorts of things from diarrhea to influenza," according to this video on what happens when you don't bathe, which you can watch below.
