Marvel's ever-growing Netflix empire got a little bigger today with the release of "Jessica Jones." But despite all of the positive buzz surrounding the project, "Jessica Jones" likely wouldn't have seen the light of day had it not been for the runaway success of "Daredevil."

Widely considered the best comic book show available right now, the first season of "Daredevil" was an entertaining dive into the dark and gritty world of the street-level superhero. There was no world-saving missions or galaxy-spanning quests, just one man who was trying to protect a few blocks of his childhood neighborhood.

Believe it or not, but season two has the opportunity to top the highs of "Daredevil's" inaugural run thanks to the addition of Jon Bernthal's Punisher. Not only is Frank Castle an iconic character in his own right, but the opposing ideologies between him and Matt Murdock will make for some fascinating storylines and action sequences.

Marvel Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada seems to agree, as he praised Bernthal's performance when asked by IGN if The Punisher could receive the spinoff treatment.

"I think we'd love to see something happen, but it's way too soon to tell and we don't necessarily like to discuss which metrics we use to decide these things," Quesada said. "But what I can tell you is that anyone who is a hardcore Punisher fan is going to be blown away and incredibly satisfied by Bernthal's take on Frank Castle. He is...it's one of those cases where it's the character from the pages come to live."

That's good to hear, considering the last few "Punisher" movies failed to fully land with some audiences. The hope is that the smaller-scaled TV setting and the fantastic Bernthal ("The Walking Dead") will be able to successfully bring The Punisher to mainstream audiences. So far, we've got high hopes.

Season two of "Daredevil" will premiere in 2016.
