When Nickelodeon announced the cancellation of its "iCarly" spin-off "Sam & Cat," there was speculation that it was driven by a feud between then-child stars Jennette McCurdy and Ariana Grande, a leak of racy photos featuring McCurdy in lingerie, or McCurdy's salary. However, McCurdy has opened up for the first time since leaving Nickelodeon last year in a new interview with New York Magazine's Vulture.

McCurdy denied reports about a feud with Grande in an interview with E! and has also long kept the stance that the photo leak was perpetuated by NBA star Andre Drummond after the two had a fling, as reported by Perez Hilton. She even denied a report by TMZ that claimed she was paid a smaller salary than Grande was, even though the two were billed as co-stars on the show.

"It was somewhat dramatic," McCurdy told Vulture about the speculation. "Emotions were running high, and a lot of that was just blown up because so many people found out about the show [Sam and Cat] ending."

She revealed that the pressures that were placed on her as a female teen star is what took a toll on her child star career. McCurdy's first major relationship with Paul Glaser (who she met while on the set of "iCarly" and is 13 years older than her) received criticism online. She said that she took offense to the rude comments about her relationship that were posted on social media and resented that her love life was now on display because of her star status.

She also discussed another life event that deeply affected her career. McCurdy's mother Debra passed away in September of 2013 while she was on set shooting "Sam & Cat." Instead of taking the time to grieve, McCurdy said she returned to work six days after her mother's death.

"I felt like it would've done so much if somebody would've just f--king - sorry," McCurdy told Vulture. "It would've done so much if somebody would've just given me a hug. And I hope that that's something I can take with myself and acknowledge when somebody else is having a really hard time, that sometimes it's like, give a person a break, you know?"
