Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan, who has recently been busy with shooting for his next film "Dangal", injured himself on the set of the film in Ludhiana over the weekend.

"Aamir had been filming a long action sequence that required multiple takes from different angles. When he slumped during the final take, the unit thought he had pulled a muscle. He was in excruciating pain even after half an hour of rest and ice packs. He couldn't even stand up. He was then rushed to the hospital where it was diagnosed that he had suffered a serious shoulder injury," the "PK" actor's spokesperson told Mumbai Mirror.

The spokesperson also said Khan was asked to rest for eight days after which doctors would decide the next course of action, according to IANS.

"He is traveling to Mumbai today and will be on complete bed rest at least for a week following which a call will be taken as to when to begin the shoot," the spokesperson added, according to Times of India.

Khan, however, described the inquiry as a "minor one," saying that he will be back on the set after taking rest for a week. "Hey guys its not such a major injury. My back muscle has gone into a spasm. A week of rest and I will be back on shoot," he tweeted.

Khan plays a wrestler in "Dangal," which is based on the life of Mahavir Phogat and his wrestler daughters Geeta and Babita Phogat, according to Hindustan Times. It also stars Sakshi Tanwar, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Rajkumar Rao in supporting roles.

The Nitesh Tiwari-directed biopic is likely to be release on Christmas of next year.
