Netflix is bringing original Bollywood and anime programs to its on-demand Internet streaming website, according to RTT News.

CEO Reed Hastings announced the original content will begin streaming in 2016, reported Engadget. The company's plan is to introduce new programs that other online streaming services do not have.

In an interview with New York Times journalist Andrew Ross Sorkin at the DealBook conference, Hastings said that providing unique on-demand shows is what keeps Netflix ahead of its competitors (Hulu, Hulu Plus, YouTube, HBO Go and Amazon Prime Instant Video, among others), according to Geeky Gadgets.

Exactly what type of Bollywood or anime shows will be streaming online is still unknown. Netflix is known for taking risks on original shows, like Aziz Ansari's "Master of None," and those risks have paid off. Recently the company set records streaming the original show "Beasts of No Nation" starring Idris Elba to millions of viewers.

Hastings said that great content finds its way to great viewers. Netflix will continue to provide Internet television in the coming years as appointment TV is on the decline, noted RTT News.

Asked if Netflix has any plans to stream sports events, Hastings said that is not part of its plans. The international media company does plan to focus on global TV shows and movies in the future.
