A woman from Sacramento, Calif., has been found guilty on charges of first-degree murder and a second count of assault after she put her newborn baby in a microwave oven and killed the infant, according to ABC News.

Ka Yang placed her 1-month old daughter, Mirabell Thao-Lo, in the microwave at her Sacramento residence for 2.5- 5 minutes in March of 2011, said Sacramento County prosecutors.

The infant succumbed after suffering burns covering 60 percent of her body, including radiation burns that damaged her internal organs, according to The Sacramento Bee.

The jury dismissed Yang's argument that she was in the middle of an epileptic seizure and didn't know what she was doing. Yang, who is a mother to three other children, told authorities that she blacked out while working on the computer and when she regained consciousness, she found the newborn injured next to a space heater. However, when paramedics arrived at the scene, they did not find Yang to be disoriented, according to court documents.

After investigators pointed out the irregularities in her statements, Yang confessed that she had lied and said that she might be suffering from multiple personality disorder.

The conviction of 34-year-old Yang could see her facing a 26-years-to-life prison sentence, a hearing for which is scheduled to take place in December.
