Jason Momoa is set to star in a new action-adventure series from Netflix called "Frontier." The streaming platform ordered six episodes of the period drama that tells the story of the North American fur trade.

Along with Momoa, Landon Liboiron of "Hemlock Grove" and Zoe Boyle of "Downton Abbey" are set to star in the show, which will premiere in 2016, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The show was created by Peter Blackie and Rob Blackie and is executive produced by Jeff Fierson and Brad Peyton with Peyton set to direct. The show is supposed to start shooting this month in Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Ontario and Cornwall in the U.K.

The drama will be told from multiple different perspectives that follow "the chaotic and violent struggle to control wealth and power in the North American fur trade in the late 18th century," according to Variety. The series takes place in a world where business negotiations might be resolved with close-quarter hatchet fights and where delicate relations between native tribes and Europeans can spark bloody conflicts.

"We jumped at the opportunity to bring this action-packed series to our global viewers," said Erik Barmack, vice president of Local Originals at Netflix, according to Entertainment Weekly. "The creative team behind the series has a very exciting vision for Jason and the show, and we're thrilled to be working with Discovery Canada on getting a vast, worldwide audience to enjoy it."

Momoa is mostly known for playing the role of Khal Drogo in HBO's "Game of Thrones." He will next be seen on the big screen as Aquaman in a number of DC films like "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" and "The Justice League Part One."
