Given the vast ground Warner Bros. has to make up with their embryonic DC Extended Universe vs. the established and thriving Marvel Cinematic Universe, it's a bit more understandable why they are stuffing "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" with as many comic book characters as it can handle. But it sounds as if that practice is extending beyond "Dawn of Justice" into some of the studio's other planned standalones.

A recent interview with actor Saïd Taghmaoui ("American Hustle") revealed that he would be playing a superhero in the "Wonder Woman" solo film.

"I'll be playing a superhero, but details are still under wraps, so I can't tell you much," Taghmaoui told French magazine Ultra (via ComicBookMovie). The actor also posted several images from the film's set but quickly deleted them.

Before we go any further, it's important to note that this was translated from French to English. It is possible that he said he was just playing a hero as in a good guy instead of someone DC Comics fans are familiar with. It is unknown at this point how literally his comments should be taken.

However, the actor also revealed that he beat out hundreds of other candidates vying for the role and will have to undergo significant physical training for the part. That preparation could just be for an in-shape regular old fashioned human being, but it could also be for a meatier role with super powers. Taghmaoui will be filming for roughly six months, after all. That suggests he's more than just cameo.

Gal Gadot ("Furious 6") will star as the titular hero while Chris Pine ("Star Trek Into Darkness") will play the role of Steve Trevor. Not a whole lot is known about the specifics of "Wonder Woman," though it is rumored that the film will cover two distinct time periods and actually take place before the events of "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice." It also sounds as if Ben Affleck's Caped Crusader could be making a cameo appearance as well.

If Taghmaoui is indeed playing a superhero, who do you think it is and why? Let us know in the comments below!

"Wonder Woman" is due out on June 23, 2017.
