Several students at a housing unit in Manchester University had an idea to create the world's hottest chili, but the chili itself made other students in the building suffer even before they took a bite out of it, People reported.

The students, who were pre-gaming for Halloween, quickly began coughing and running out of the building, with one student even vomiting as she went outside.

Theresa Morgan, 19, then dialled 999 and reported what she and her friends believed to be a gas leak. The culprits eventually confessed to their crime: the apparent "gas leak" were fumes that resulted in cooking the "world's hottest chili."

"We were all standing outside and they came out with a crate of beer and we thought well this is one way to meet the neighbours," Morgan said, according to The Mirror.

Once the fire brigade arrived, they went straight to the scene to see the damaged caused by the fumes, only to swiftly come out of the house choking and gasping for air.

A few were able to see the funny side of the incident, such as second year student and fellow dormer Liv. "For once I was throwing up and it wasn't because of alcohol," Liv said.

Morgan revealed that the fire brigade successfully handled the incident well, but then they told the students it was "the most stupid thing they'd been sent out for in 20 years," according to The Tab.
