With J.J. Abrams' "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" right around the corner, we thought it a good time to start looking down the road to Rian Johnson's "Star Wars: Episode VIII." We know that the script has already been written for the film already and we know that Benicio Del Toro has been cast as a probable villain. Now comes word from Jedi News that actress Gina Rodriguez may be joining the cast as well.

"Golden Globe winner Gina Rodriguez ('Jane the Virgin') was previously rumored to be in contention for a part in Rian Johnson's Episode VIII.

"Those rumors may now step up after eagled eyed twitter user Tony spotted that both Rian Johnson and John Boyega are now following her on twitter."

Is this a step to far for a simple social media development? Are we jumping to conclusions? Perhaps. But as Jedi News notes, Rodriguez's name has been batted around for "Episode VIII" in the past, so maybe they're actually are on to something.

Only time will tell if this has any real significance and time is all we have. "Star Wars: Episode VIII" isn't due out until May 26, 2017.

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" will finally hit theaters on Dec. 18.
