Just a few weeks after Halloween, we are pet-rified by the Lykoi - the new cat breed that's a feline version of a werewolf. They are creepy cute with short, shaggy fur which grows sparsely on their faces. These hybrids sport wide-set ears.

This werewolf cat could end all the dog vs. cat debates. Like hounds, they are affectionate. They also have the excellent sense of smell of hunting dogs. But like felines, they are independent and not clingy.

Lykois get along with humans and other typical household pets. They are 100 percent cats and are believed to be a natural genetic mutation of short-hair feral cats.

Veterinarian Dr. John Gobble collected a pair of non-related cats with the same mutations and started a breeding program.

"The Lykoi Cat is a natural mutation from a domestic shorthair that has the appearance of a werewolf. The mutation has occurred in domestic cats over the last 20 years, but to date, no reports of anyone starting a breed have been made. Our founding cats come from two unrelated litters," says the official breeder website.

We're not sure if he bred them on a full moon, but Gobble successfully produced a litter of wolf-looking kittens, reports Hello Giggles.

While their CFA registration is still on its way, Lykois are now selling for $ 2,500. It remains uncertain whether these cats have genetic health issues.

"We took the Lykoi before the TICA Board again in 2014 and we were passed to 'Preliminary New Breed' status. Every board member accepted the Lykoi, so we were passed with no objections! We are a 'recognized' breed with TICA and we are now able to show in the PNB class at TICA shows... hope to reach full Championship status in 2016!" say the breeders.

"Lykoi" means "wolf cat" in Greek.
