Gerald Green was sent to the hospital with what is being called an illness and that is about as much as we know regarding his current health status. Green has missed the Miami Heat's last four games with this illness and there is no indication that a return to the court is coming anytime soon. There have been rumblings that the Heat are prepared to sever ties with the 29 year old forward but that doesn't appear to be the case, according to Ethan J. Skolnick of the Miami Herald.

Green was taken to the hospital last Wednesday and was considered a "combative patient." TMZ reported that Green was found in his condo unconscious and bleeding and that he was acting weird the day he was eventually taken to the hospital according to some of his neighbors.

The Heat have kept everything close to the vest as they have not really shared much information with the media but head coach Erik Spoelstra did say that he is "safe and healthy." Spoelstra also added that several teammates were in contact with Green but still nobody would offer an explanation as to why Green was hospitalized in the first place. The Herald is also reporting that Green has been released from the hospital but there is still uncertainty about when he may return to the court.

On Sunday Heat Vice President of media relations, Tim Donovan, said there is no update on Green and that Spoelstra would not field questions on his player. While there aren't any updates at the moment it is being reported that more clarity should come soon on this "delicate" situation.

Green signed a one year deal with the Heat this offseason for the league minimum and was expected to be a major scorer for them off the bench. Through three games he is averaging 10.3 points while shooting just 32 percent from the field. There is no timeline on Green's potential return but it seems as though he will stay with the Heat despite the speculation that they might release him. With Green unavailable it has meant more Justise Winslow for Miami and that has been good for them as he has really impressed early in his rookie season.
