Additional details on the death of police Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz has revealed that he arranged a "sham marriage" between his alleged mistress and his son in the army, in order to increase military benefits which could amount up to thousands of dollars per year, according to The Inquisitr.

Gliniewicz, a 30-year veteran of the police force in the northern Illinois town of Fox Lake, was lauded by politicians and buried with honors after he was found dead on Sept. 1, apparently killed by suspects he was pursuing near a marshy area, New York Post reported.

However, the police officer's death has been since declared a suicide, as reported in a previous HNGN article.

Officials said that Gliniewicz staged his suicide to look like murder. The investigation showed that he was killed by his own weapon and it was also discovered that the cop had been embezzling.

The police found out that the dirty cop had even threatened to frame village administrator Anne Marrin for coke possession and even went as far as planning to "put a hit on her" for fear that she would find out about his underground operations, Lake County Sheriff's Office spokesman Christopher Covelli said, according to New York Daily News.

The wife and son of the dead cop are now under investigation regarding their knowledge of the dirty operations.
