On Thursday, Burt Reynolds admitted in Vanity Fair's December issue that he's still in love with his ex-girlfriend Sally Field, calling her the love of his life.

"I miss her terribly," the 79-year-old actor told Vanity Fair, speaking about Field, who he dated on and off for five years in the 70s and 80s. "Even now, it's hard on me. I don't know why I was so stupid. Men are like that, you know. You find the perfect person, and then you do everything you can to screw it up."

Later, when asked about Reynolds comments at the Women's Media Center Awards in New York City, 69-year-old Field said she hadn't heard about Reynolds' admission but would like to keep her response private.

"I didn't hear that yet," said Field, according to People. "I have no response, really, and any response I would have would belong to him."

Reynolds, who was known as a notorious playboy, went on to marry Loni Anderson in 1988 before splitting up with her in 1994. He is currently dating Rhonda Stearns, according to WPIX-TV.

In his memoir, titled "But Enough About Me: A Memoir," Reynolds addresses other regrets and rumors, including speculation that the actor was "broke" after he put his Florida home on the market for $3.3 million along with 600 personal items up for auction last year.

"I'm not bankrupt by any means," he said. "I'm not even worried about it."

The "Deliverance" star also admitted that he made some bad decisions with money, adding that "women" were the one thing that cost him the most (his divorce with Anderson alone cut down his net worth from $15 million to only $5 million). When asked about his life's biggest regret, he said: "I would have spent more money and had a lot more fun."
