Marisa Tomei is in final negotiations to star as Aunt May in Marvel's "Spider-Man" reboot, but the decision is receiving some negative feedback from the comic book purists.

Usually a woman's good looks and youth would get her any role in Hollywood, but some are calling Tomei too hot to play the character usually seen as a white-haired, elderly woman.

The previous two on-screen portrayals of Peter Parker's guardian have been played by older actresses who represent the more common Aunt May. A 74-year-old Rosemary Harris played her in the Sam Raimi trilogy opposite Tobey Maguire and a 66-year-old Sally Field took care of Andrew Garfield's Spidey for the two "Amazing Spider-Man" films.

But in the Ultimate Marvel universe there, Aunt May exists as a strong and independent woman in her late 40s, early 50s, putting her closer in age to the 50-year-old Tomei.

Aunt May could make her first appearance as early as next year's "Captain America: Civil War" with her web-slinging nephew Spider-Man, played by Tom Holland, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The movie is slated for release on May 6, 2016.

Marvel's first "Spider-Man" installment will premiere on July 28, 2017.
