Do women play video games more than men? A new survey by the Pew Research Center suggests that more women in the U.S. own consoles, leading many to wonder whether women are more into gaming.

The center did a survey on the various demographics associated with technology, and within their research, they found interesting information on gaming console ownership.

Of the study's respondents who owned gaming consoles, 42 percent were female, compared to 37 percent who were men, according to Polygon.

These numbers are different than the numbers previously reported in 2010 that favored men at 45 percent and women at 40 percent.

The data can be interpreted in different ways, however, with many questioning what the survey is really saying-- if anything at all.

Gaming consoles are different than other personal electronic devices in that they can often be shared. For instance, if one person in a household owns a console, the entire household could consider themselves owners to some degree if they are asked, even if they never really play it.

Not only that, but going so far as to say that women play games more could be misleading, since having a console doesn't necessarily mean you're playing the games, according to The Verge.
