NASA is hiring for a new batch of astronauts that would have the chance to fly on future missions aboard either a commercial spacecraft or the space agency's own deep-space Orion capsule.

The hiring call was made Wednesday on NASA's Instagram and Twitter pages.

Interested folks need to have the following in order to get the chance to be a part of the next space explorers: a bachelor's degree in science, math, engineering or any technology-related field, as well as three years of experience in a related career or 1,000 hours of logged time as a pilot of a jet aircraft, The Washington Post reported.

Astronaut candidates must also pass the NASA long-duration spaceflight physical, according to NASA.

Applications will be accepted starting Dec. 14 until mid-February, and astronaut candidates will be announced in mid-2007.

The call for new astronauts is also because of NASA's preparation for the nearing journeys to Mars. The space agency also said that launches would again take place from Florida's Space Coast on American-made spacecraft, CNN Money reported.

"With more human spacecraft in development in the United States today than at any other time in history, future astronauts will launch once again from the Space Coast of Florida on American-made commercial spacecraft, and carry out deep-space exploration missions that will advance a future human mission to Mars," NASA said, according to AFP.
