Nicole Kidman is in ongoing negotiations to play the role of a "high-ranking Amazonian warrior" alongside Gal Gadot in Warner Bros.' upcoming superhero movie "Wonder Woman," according to a source, The Wrap reported.

"Wonder Woman" will be helmed by Patty Jenkins and also stars Chris Pine as Wonder Woman's love interest Steve Trevor, as HNGN previously reported.

Kidman's role has not yet been confirmed, but it's likely that she will join the cast as Hippolyta, the Queen of the Amazons, who is Wonder Woman's mother in the comic books.

Zack Snyder and Deborah Snyder are producers on "Wonder Woman" along with Atlas Entertainment's Charles Roven and Richard Suckle. Jason Fuchs, who penned "Pan," has written the script. Wonder Woman will be introduced in next year's "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" before her debut solo movie hits theaters on June 23, 2017.

The Oscar-winning actress will next be seen on the big screen opposite Chiwetel Ejiofor and Julia Roberts in the Hollywood remake of the 2009 Argentine thriller "The Secret in Their Eyes," which will be released on Nov. 20. The Australian actress will also be featured in the upcoming thriller "The Silent Wife" and is slated to produce the HBO miniseries "Big Little Lies," according to Time.
