Former professional wrestler Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka pleaded not guilty today to murdering his girlfriend more than 30 years ago, according to AP News. The WWE Hall of Famer was charged with third-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter in connection to Nancy Argentino's death in Allentown, Pa.

After a May 1983 taping of a WWE wrestling match, Snuka's girlfriend was found dead in a Whitehall Township hotel room she was sharing with him, according to Philly.com. At the time, Argentino was 23 years old and Snuka was 40.

Today, the 72-year-old has early onset dementia and post-concussion syndrome, said Snuka's attorney Robert Kiran II. The retired wrestler told the judge he could not read nor write, did not know where he was or what day it was, and that he never went to school, according to Reuters.

The defendant, who recently had stomach surgery for cancer, seemed to have trouble answering questions at his arraignment in Lehigh County Court, reported Philly.com.

The retired wrestler was known for climbing to the top of the ring's top rope, diving onto his opponent's chest and having a wild man's look, noted Reuters.

The defense asserted that Snuka may not be competent to stand trial, according to AP News. He remains free on a $100,000 bail.
