Four people were killed including a suspected gunman in a Saturday morning shooting spree in downtown Colorado Springs, Colo.

Eyewitnesses said that an unidentified gunman shot and killed two woman and a bicyclist and set the second floor of a residential building on fire, according to CNN.

The Colorado Springs Police received a call regarding a shooting at about 8:45 a.m. in the 200 block of North Prospect Street, the El Paso County's Sherriff department said in a statement. Police also received a description of the suspect.

"I looked out my kitchen window and I saw a man in a green jacket firing an AR-15...waited a few seconds, went out of my house, looked to my left and saw a man down the street, probably 50 feet. I started following him and I called the cops," eyewitness Matt Abshire told The Gazette, KKTV reported.

"Still following him, he's heading left on Platte towards Palmer High School...probably a hundred yards past El Paso Street he stops, turns to his left, fires four shots, shoots two ladies, one in the jaw, one in the chest if I'm not mistaken," he said.

The suspect was gunned down by police at the front of a Wendy's restaurant on North Wahsatch Avenue, police said, according to The Gazette. The suspect fired multiple shots at the officers, the sheriff's office said.

"I saw someone come around the corner being chased by police. He (gunman) kind of spun around and that's when they (police) said drop it and he kind of like went to aim and that's when they shot him down," eyewitness Aaron Nicks said, KOAA reported.

More than 30,000 people are shot and killed in the U.S. every year, according to Press TV.
