"Guardians of the Galaxy 2" has cast French actress Pom Klementieff in a mystery role specifically calling for an Asian actress, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Marvel conducted a wide search and held several rounds of chemistry in their search for the perfect candidate. Klementieff will join Chris Pratt and his fellow "Guardians" cast mates for the sequel set to premiere in 2017.

Filming is scheduled to start in early 2016. James Gunn will return to direct after his first attempt grossed $94.3 million in its opening weekend, the biggest August weekend ever. It's also Marvel Studios' fourth highest grossing movie.

Klementieff has mostly worked in France but recently starred in Spike Lee's 2013 remake of the Korean film, "Oldboy." She also starred in the 2015 thriller, "Hacker's Game."

"Guardians of the Galaxy 2" will kickoff Marvel's first attempt at premiering three movies in one year. The studio will also release its first solo "Spider-Man" film and "Thor: Ragnarok," the third movie in the franchise led by Chris Hemsworth, in 2017.

"Guardians of the Galaxy 2" will hit theaters on May 5, 2017.
