Cats and dogs are just plain full of happiness! They roll on the floor, lick your face, and make a thousand camera-worthy cute faces.

However, pet ownership has its responsibilities. When your furry friends are not playing with you, they can be messing up the house.

A Houzz survey of 10,000 pet parents across 11 countries -  the United States, Canada, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Denmark, Russia, Germany, Australia and Japan - listed the most common pet peeves at home.

Seventy percent of pet owners complained about pet hair. Forty-three percent report cleaning dirt, mud, and other outdoor elements brought in by their energetic pets. Thirty-one percent of pet parents had to deal with bad smells.

Are Pets Expensive?

People are most likely to spend more on dogs than on cats. In the pet parents survey, twenty-two percent of pet owners spent over $1,000 on dogs in the last two years, while 14 percent spent the same amount on cats.

Twenty-seven percent of feline owners spent less than $100 on cats, while 15 percent spent the same amount on dogs.

Dogs also ask for more time and energy, but pet owners still love them because they are more loyal and affectionate.

An up-close interview with a pet owner for this article revealed that dogs can be low-maintenance.

"You only have to worry about anti-rabies injections and vaccinations during the pup's first three months. Afterwards, it's just dog food, some milk, and bath products. It's affordable," said one dog owner in the survey.
